Built by Nate Holyoke Builders Inc. of Holden Maine this rustic cottage is located on a heavily wooded lot adjacent to Phillips Lake, about 18 miles southwest of Bangor.
Dave and Elizabeth needed a refuge from their big city hustle and bustle and chose a location 3 doors down from where Elizabeth spent her summers as a child.
On their initial wish-list was a wide open floor plan with the master bedroom on the first floor, exposed truss great room (kitchen, dining, living) with a large stone fireplace.
A large screen porch off of the great room would afford many opportunities for family meals and get togethers without uninvited buzzing guests.
The sloping site allowed us to open up the basement to daylight and create a vast recreation room.
Upstairs has three bedrooms and two baths.
Deep standing seam metal roof overhangs, supported by local hemlock rafters and brackets, protect the surrounding ipe decks from the occasional mid-summer downpour.
The shingle siding and painted trim is western red cedar.
